Already behind

As in life, I am behind in this blog.  I refuse to feel guilty.  Just need to keep track of a few things here.

The Bug is growing like a weed - a long, lean weed.  She runs around the house, talking her head off.  She still uses sign language, and has an ever increasing baby sign vocabulary: it now includes “milk”, “water”, “more”, “something else” and “all done”.  She’s also got a few words she uses with more and more regularity: ”ba” (which can mean bottle, blankie, or a number of other things, although it’s becoming less of a stand-in for everything, as it used to be), “ball”, “milk” (sounds like “mi”, done with the sign), “ba-ba” (means Papa), “mama”, “Anna”, “more” (sounds like “mo”, done with the sign), “bye-bye” and “hi-ya”.  When we get to her daycare in the morning, she runs in to hug Kelly and Erin, and plops herself down in one of their laps.

The Banana is an incredible big sister, and a real-live-almost-kindergardener.  She blows my mind with the crazy things she says, like the other day, when we were talking about how much a car cost, and she said “Whoa! In my mind, it’s like, exploding!”.  She’s standing up for herself, and went down by herself to tell the director of her summer camp that she didn’t think she should have to watch the movies, if she didn’t want to, because they were scary.  She loves to read, sing songs, and make artwork.  She just got a new bicycle, and is learning to ride it, but still has some fear, and can’t seem to figure out the brakes.  We’ll get there.

S. and I often feel overwhelmed and exhausted at the end of the day.  We are working on spending time together as a family, and not feeling obligated to say yes to everything that comes along on the evenings and weekends.  This summer has seen some really nice trips to the beach and the pool, and some pleasant dinners out on the porch.  Adjusting to working full-time is certainly difficult, but we’re getting there.  Only two weeks now until our vacation, but I don’t want to think of that as a short time, since the vacation itself will only be two weeks long for me!  In any case, it’s something nice to look forward to, and I do think we’ll have a really nice time in Austria.

Starting up

Giving this blogging thing a try.  I’d like to have a record of what life is like these days.  It’s so busy and hectic that I’m afraid if I blink, I’ll miss it, and I won’t remember these early days.  The Bug’s 9-month check-up was today - she’s happy and healthy and all is in ordnung.  I’m back to work after a week of vacation, and have spent the day trying to catch up, but since I’m working on this, you can see I’m a bit distracted.  Tonight - gulasch for dinner, and sharing a cozy meal with my family.  Tomorrow I’ll write a catch-up post, so the world can know where I was when I started this blog.
